Another week has passed. this marks the last day of january at home since tomolo I am on duty.
Today an accident happened during our working hours in camp. Gordon was injured on his hand (a deep cut by dirty, rusted metal) while carrying a metallic cupboard. i wasn't at the scene initially when the accident happened hence Charles told me this was the event sequence.
1. The documents in the cupboard was to be mustered and removed from the cupboard.
2. The yet-to-empty cupboard was offered to Mdm Jas
3. She didn't want it (neither the documents inside which were supposed to be under her purview)
4. Hd Log then ordered the cupboard to be kept in the store.
5. Half the cabinet was emptied but the remaining documents were still damn heavy..
6. A trolley was loaned to carry the DOCUMENTS (as told to me)
7. The trolley was used to carry the cupboard with the documents inside instead...:(
8. The trolley toppled in the corrider, nobody was hurt with their quick reflexes (being unable to hold on to the falling cupboard) except for Gordon..he was the last to remove his hands from the falling cupboard..
In my view it was veri brave of him to do so because if everyone let go so quickly at the same time when the first sense of the toppling was felt, the cupboard would have fallen in any direction (which can be very dangerous). Every milisec delayed, the risk of being injured gets higher, but also at the same time, every milisec delayed makes sure others' fingers get to safety first, as well as forcin the cupboard to fall onto the safest direction....and in this case, the strongest person in the grp was Gordon, and hence he muz had tried to slow down the fall of the cupboard to let everyone move their fingers away...
Sighz. What happened has happened and no use blaming anyone. Let's just pray Gordon gets healed quickly and with no future problems.
Lessons learnt :
1. Our senior WOs and Offrs and DXOs have no sense of care for their subordinates. When the cupboard fell, the sound was so loud but nobody bothered to come out and take a look. They did not look worried too, and was very quick in wanting to find someone to blame again.
2. Remove all things in the cupboard before moving if the cupboard is heavy.
3. Get more strong men....
4. Never try to use your toes to support the bottom of the item you are carrying when you are putting the item down.
5. Be steady and keep cool when an injury happens. Inform someone quickly, especially someone with experience and knowledge.
6. Never overestimate yourself.
Tomolo it's my duty.....sianz.....

Jeff
